Life Goes On

I know for many of you it has been a long time, or maybe even a first, since you have received an update from Hannah and me.

As a short recap, Hannah and I spent just over a year and a half in northern Virginia after we got married. During this time, I was working as an aircraft mechanic and Hannah was taking general education classes online while working part time. In the fall of 2009 Hannah was accepted into a nursing program back in Indiana. We decided to take this opportunity to get Hannah the nursing education she has always wanted. In January of 2010, Hannah began the 2-year Registered Nurse program. Since this time, we have been living in the Indianapolis area. It has been difficult for me to find employment in the aviation field and therefore I have been working as an automotive mechanic for the last year. Hannah has been working very hard at her intense program and is coming up on graduation July 29th.

As many of you know, our long term desire is to serve as missionaries. Before Hannah and I begin missionary training, I would like to get my flight training so that I will be able to serve as a mechanic/pilot overseas. Many mission agencies require their aviation personnel to be both a pilot and mechanic due to the many isolated places that missionary aviators serve. With this said, an opportunity has opened up for me to attend Moody Bible Institute in Spokane Washington. Moody Spokane is where the aviation department is located. Typically, this program is a five year program, however, due to the fact that I have already obtained my Airframe and Powerplant certifications, I will not have to make up those two additional years. We have considered this option, along with many others, and feel that Moody would provide the best training needed for flying overseas. We feel that the Lord, in the short few weeks since we have made the decision, has already begun to provide and confirm to us the decision we have made.

So, towards the beginning of August we will be leaving Indiana and moving to Spokane. There are a lot of things that need to fall into place before we move, and once we get there! Hannah will be taking her NCLEX (the test she needs to pass to get her registered nursing license) once we get to Washington. We are unsure of what our job situation will look like since Hannah won’t have her license until at least several weeks after we arrive. She will start applying for jobs in mid-May in hopes to get a ‘graduate nurse’ position (meaning the hospital will hire her on as a ‘student nurse’ until she gets her license, then she will be hired as an RN). You could be praying with us that she will be able to secure a job in Washington prior to our move. We do not have any housing lined up (as of yet) and probably won’t be able to organize anything until we get to Spokane. This, obviously, is a little unsettling for us, but we are trusting that the Lord will provide. I will be going to school full time. The first year will be a year of Bible classes. The second and third year will be heavily focused on flight training. Due to the flow of my schedule, I am planning on holding a job during the first year of school, but after that will not. Moody does not recommend students holding jobs during these last two years due to the sporadic flight schedule. Please be praying with us in the different areas above. We are excited to see how the Lord is going to work.

Please feel free to write to us with any questions or comments you may have. We would love to hear from you. Thank you for the part that each of you have played in our lives.

Prayer requests:
- Hannah being able to find employment prior to/soon after we arrive
- Hannah being able to pass her NCLEX
- Travel and relocation expenses
- Tuition and flight training expenses
- Housing

By His Grace,

Mikel and Hannah Poulsen
